Zoom
Beijing was the dynastic capital of China from the mid-13th century until the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1912. Beijing became the capital of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Explore the places that once belonged to the emperors of China. The traditional Beijing houses, called hutongs, are quickly disappearing to make room for modern high-rise buildings. Visit a hutong where people currently live. Explore the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Great Wall. Marvel at the size of Tiananmen Square. Admire the balancing acts of Chinese acrobats. Led by retired high school teacher Sheila Taub, who now presents illustrated talks on her travels at libraries, senior centers, community centers, and cruise ships.
In collaboration with the Tewksbury Public Library. Thanks to the Friends of the Bedford Free Public Library.
